Charles Robert Casey was born in 1850-1860 in Ohio, USA; died on 23 May 1895 in Freetown/Uniontown, Jackson, IN, USA; was buried in 1895 in New Freetown Cemetery, Pershing Township, Freetown, IN.

Notes:

Stonemason, and pugilist (fighter). Apparently engaged in a fisticuff engagement (some reports says boxing match in Uniontown). Came home? to Freetown and died approx. two weeks later. His grave has not been found in Freetown.

In the 1880 census for Indianapolis there is a stone cutter Charles Case, born in Ohio (abt 1850), single, father born in Indiana, mother in Vermont.

On the death certificate of Roy in 1906 his brother James registers fathers birth place as Ohio.

When Charles R. Casey marries in 1881 in Brown county, his last name is Case. No parents in the registry.

Birthdate may be Aug 27.

Brown county is just south of Indianapolis, and nabors Bartholomew and Jackson counties, where the familiy settles. Knox is a little further west.

- Not the son of James Solomon Casey and Eliza Ann West. Their son is Charles Thomas Casey. When this Charles T. gets married, his parents are stated. He is also in the census with his mother Eliza in 1880.

Notes:

Orphans. Her death certificate states her father as Crosslow, her mother as Simmons.

1860 census for Salt Creek, Jackson, Indiana, Tobitha is six years old and living with William Arthur and his wife Mary Jane (her older sister).

Not yet found in 1870 and 1880, 90 is missing.

(There is also a John K. Miller born Oct 1852 in Illinois on the same page, married farm laborer, but I believe he is a day laborer, and his family is in Montgomery, Crawford, Illinois.)

1906 marriage of James, she is registered also as Tabitha Miller.

1910 she is 53, and a washerwoman in Bicknell, Vigo, Knox, Indiana, has both parents born in Virginia. Lives with Efford.
1920 census for Bicknell has her as Tabitha A. Casey, age 55, widow, washer woman born in Indiana, has both parents born in Virginia.
1930, widow on Alexander Street in Bicknell, father born in Kentucky, mother in Virginia.
Tobitha had tuberculosis for ten years before she died of myocarditis in 1933.

In 1840 there is a James Caslaw in Washington, Brown, Indiana. He is not on the 1848 or 1858 tax records of Brown county.

By 1860 the younger children Joseph and Tobitha are living with their older married sisters Nancy and Mary Jane in Johnson, Brown, Indiana. Have not found Elizabeth in this census.

First name may have been Catherine (or was that James Croslows first wife), father said to be Dan Simmons of Kentucky. Cherokee bloodline? Also had a son James Simmons b. 1 Oct. 1811 in (?Ohio County) Kentucky.
(Katherine Simmons, dau of Adam Simmons and Phoebe Snodgrass m. Oct 13 1814 in Harrison, KY, is not the correct one - she married Cornelius Veatch in 1837.)
