    • Granted 270 acres of land on he northwest side of Bennetts Creek in North Carolina in 1711. This creek is in what is now Gates county, formerly Chowan, and his land was near of immediately where Gatesville now stands. He subsequently made many entries and purchases of land, and became a very extensive land holder.
      He wa a juror and grand juror and on Oct 24th 1724 he was comissioned assistand justice of the vourt of Oyer and Terminer, and served until after the April term 1729. He was then known as Colonel Alston. In 1725 he he was appointed revenue collector for the king. He was a vestryman of St. Pauls Parish, Chowan county from 1738-1747, and in 1746 he was sheriff of Chowan ounty.
      His wife survived him.
