"Andrew Brakke and his wife Endrine came from Norway to America in 1873. He worked on the railroad in Iowa and then bought land in Clarkfield, Minnesota and came to Franklin Township in 1882. In 1906 he sold his farm to two sons, Albert and Malius. Four daughters were married to farmers near them: Kari to Baard Dronen, Jette to Willie Olson, Julia to Sacharias Dronen, Elizabeth to Nels Birkland, Minot North Dakota, and Betsie to Carl Dronen. Malius passed away October 14, 1916. His son karl farmed near Ray, North Dakota. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Brakke were charter members of the Ostervold Church. Knut Halverson, John Dronen and Andrew Brakke walked from the present Albin Arneson farm near the Sheyenne River to stake their claims in Franklin Township and walked to the Hans Gilbertsons where Arvid Gilbertson is living now. Andrew Brakke died Januar 8,1917. Endrine Brakke died March 7, 1936." Newspaper article.
