OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY

This regiment (196th) was organized at Camp Chase, Ohio, for one year, and mustered into service March 25, 1865. Colonel R. P. Kennedy commanded. It contained part of a company, thirty men, from Ashland county. Elmore Ewing, private.

This Levi was married 30 Mar 1842, to Mary "Polly" Ann Andrews who died in childbirth and in Dec 1850 to Caroline Mozier who died between the census of June 4, 1860 and his supposed marriage on Oct 30, 1861 to Tamson Marinda van Camp (1846-1918). This marriage I believe is to a separate William Ewing. Tamson remarried in 1868. When their daughter Elizabeth (1863-1939) died this William birthplace is said to be Indiana (not Ohio).

Levi is in Vermillion, Ashland, Ohio in 1850 with his son Elmore b. 1843 by his first wife. He was a carpenter. In 1860 he is in Decatur, Adams, Indiana. He died in Mar 1866 in Decatur.

Decatur is where Dillon Ewing Shoemaker was born. Lydia would then have been Levi's third or fourth wife.

Levi married Mary Ann "Polly" Andrews on 30 Mar 1842 in Richland, Ohio, USA. Mary died in Sep 1843 in Richland, Ohio, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

William Ewing, of Vermillion township, an Ashland county pioneer, came here from Pennsylvania in 1813.

The gravestone of William Ewing which says age 84 7m 1d which puts his birthday at June 9, 1789.

William Ewing, full cousin of the late Hon. Thomas Ewing, a soldier in the war of 1812, father-in-law of James E. Cox, Esq., of Mansfield, and an influential citizen of "Old" Richland County, died in Ashland County, on Feb 10th., 1874, aged 82 years. He was for 40 years an Elder in the Lutheran Church.
