7013 His father emigrated from Britain, his name might have been John or Edmund Fear.

William and Mary moved from Harrison, Kentucky to an 80 acre tract of thickly wooded land six miles west of Greensburg, Decatur county, Indiana in 1835. Three years later he bought and moved to an eighty acre tract near to and just west of Newburg. Here too it was vast wilderness, giant treees, briars, bushes and brush. He cleared it an built a typical log cabin. There were just a few settlers, no roads, wild turkeys, panthers, wolves and wild cats, and squirrels so many they could eat and destroy acres of corn.

7014 His father in law Benjamin Forgason (Ferguson) can be found in Decatur, Indiana 1840 census next door to Thomas A. Casey.

Census records indicate that Thomas' birth date was about 1821 as he is shown as age 29 in the 1850 Decatur County, Indiana census.
In the 1850 Census children are Matthew, Sarah, (these two are from Malinda's previous marriage to Edmond Mitchell on Jan. 6, 1831 in Decatur Co. In.) Solomon (James Solomon), Elizabeth, Nancy, Ann E. and Thomas J.
In 1860 Decatur census the children are James S., Nancy, Ann E., Thomas J., Harvey, and Sarah M. Mitchell. Thomas A. Casey and Malinda (Ferguson) Mitchell were married December 27, 1838 in Decatur Co. In. There is a note giving son Harvey permission to marry that was written by Thomas while he was in Indianapolis, Indiana.

In the 1900 Census for Chicago, there is a Thomas Casey in an old folks home, birthdate recorded as Dec 1824, which I believe is too late, as he was married in 1838 and head of a household in 1840. Censuses show birthyear as 1821. He was still very young when he married.

There was a Thomas Casey who was in the Indiana infantry from Jan 1865 till Jan 1866, as a sargeant, registered in Dayton, KY.

7026 His name was Thomas or Richard. Casey, Thomas or Richard (I20718)

7027 His parents Pieter senior and Dirkje had a house in Zeestraat, Noordwijkerhout.
Pieter moved to Lisse in 1875, came back, moved to Zoeterwoude in 1876, came back, moved to Zandvoort and in 1879 to Den Haag, learning his trade as a smith.

In 1881 Johanna came from den Haag i September and stayed with the family, and back to den Haag again in when they were married November 8th.

Pieter and his wife Johanna lived at on Zeestraat with his parents for some time. Their first five children were born in Den Haag. Then after the birth of this fifth child in Den Haag they stayed for about a year in Utrecht, where address was 1e Daalschendÿk 52 r (new nr 102) in Utrecht, and occupation was smith. Laurens van Loevezijn, Johannas brother took over the house when the family moved to Noordwijkerhout on the 7th of July 1890 where in september 6th child Hendrika has been born.

Sons of Pieter and Johanna left Noordwijkerhout as "smidsknechten", like their father, so not already considered masters in their trade. They left to learn the trade elsewhere. Johannes spent some time in Bloemendaal.

1907 it was announced in the newspaper that Pieter was starting a "smederij" or smithy in Schippersslootweg, later called Havenstraat. They rented the house at the time, it was built in 1895.

1912 beroep smid, Noordwijkerhout.

In 1916 Pieter van der Raadt has bought a piece of land in De Zilk (northern part of Noordwijkerhout) at the Regenvlietweg (later nr 43). Previous owner the Warmerdam family. It means that Pieter and Johanna are looking for expansion. On this land he builds a small house and smithy/forge. The necessary drawing is made by the land registers and mentions name van der Raadt. The house still exits but Theo van Gijlswijk from De Zilk told cousin Jan Duivenvoorden that in 1922 two living rooms were added, (higher part, leftside of the house) so that was 4 years after widow Johanna van der Raadt-Loevezijn and her children decided to sell this house and smithy in july 1918. Theo also provided the request from Pieter in 1916 adressing townhall for permission to build this house and start a forger/smithy.

1918, announced in the newspaper that the van der Raadt brothers need a "rijwielhersteller", so they had expanded their smitty with repairing bicycles.

In January 1918 Pieter and Johanna bought the house in which they already lived for more than 10 years, Schippersslootweg, later called Havenstraat. Area square meters: 625. They payed 4.300 guilders to Van der Zalm, who owned it since 1900 and probably was their landlord in the years before. Beautiful building. The "schuur" was their workplace or smithy, stood alone, but much later it was connected to the house in the time it became a "snackbar".

Pieter died from the Spanish flu in 1918. Translated text from the death notice in Nieuwe Haarlemsche courant on May 11th:
Died today, after having been provided with the HH. Sacraments of the Dying, my dearly beloved Husband and our caring father, Mr. PIETER VAN DER RAADT, at the age of 60.
Noordwijkerhout, May 8, 1918.
The business will continue on the same footing. Through a solid and decent service, the Widow and Sons hope to make themselves worthy of the trust of their patrons and commend themselves to your favor.
Wed.P.v.D.RAADT AND ZONEN.

In July (17th) widow Johanna and her children make an inventory of the property of the deceased Pieter, who had made a last will in 1916. The heritage is not divided yet, widow Johanna keeps full "vruchtgebruik". Mentioned are two grandchildren, they replace their deceased father Pieter Johannes, who died in june that same year. Benefits are the two houses/smithys in De Zilk (A1416 on map) and Noordwijkerhout (that year E1299), at first they are mentioned without estimated value in contrary to the debts, they are all mentioned with figures. There is a mortgage given by the "weeshuis of Noordwijk (3500) and one by the sisters Van Nes (1500). Later in the document we find under "Baten" the estimated value of the houses, 2.140 and 4.500 guilders. With some other benefits the total is 8.160 guilders. Total debt is also 8.160 guilders, included the bill of the notary (43 gld). So benefits and debts are completely in balance or as mentioned at page 5, under, right: "nihil". So there is nothing to divide, a constructed approach by the heirs who must have decide in cooperation with the notary not to divide so the total value of the heritage could be assigned to widow Johanna.

Announcement by advert shortly after the death or her husband, Johanna wants to sell, because of "death and having double businesses". Johanna decided this very soon after their husbands death, because the advert is placed on the 16th of May. House valued on July 17th for 2.140 gld, sold 30th for 3.150 gld.

On the 30th of july 1918 the smithy in De Zilk, which they had built only two years prior, is sold with all equipment. Two businesses is two much for Johanna. The house is sold at a public auction. New owners are the Van Stijn family but "Hendrik Hogewoning" is the person who did the bid, so his name is mentioned.
This all is no more than two months before the death of Johanna!

On the 14th of November a new inventory and division of the property has to be made. This time very simple document. Benefits are 7.500 guilders, debts are 5.250 guilders, bill notary included. So to divide is the sum of 2.250 guilders. There are seven children plus the two children of deceased Petrus van der Raadt and his wife Wilhelmina (she died 1911). So 8 heirs, but one of them, Laurentius is not an adult and Christiaan is his guardian. Decision is made not to split, so Christiaan, Johannes (and Christiaan is his role of guardian) are the ones who will take over benefits and debts. The smithy is placed at their names. In November 1920 follows a final division and Johannes becomes sole owner of the smithy.

On 26th of April 1921 Johannes van der Raadt sells his house to the family Adrianus Vermin. Price is 9.010 guilders (compare: bought 1918: 4300!). The Vermins had a smitty on Haverstraat, close to Witte kerk (the White Church). They were smiths/blacksmiths and they also sold and repaired bicycles and gave horses new shoes. The combination smith/bicycles repair must have been a natural developed activity, the van der Raadt family did the same.

Johannes and family moved to Rosendaal.
van der Raadt, Pieter (I19557)

7028 His parents were Adam Drodt (from Darmstadt, Hesse) and Rosina C. (from Wurtemburg), Germany. Drodt, William (I27537)

7029 His parents were Anna Padnes and Robert Rudolph, born in Minsk, Russia. Rudolph, Manuel (I20991)

7030 His parents were Benjamin Walker and Sarah Ann Baker Philips, both born in England. Walker, William Benjamin (I28753)

7031 His parents were Irish immigrants.

James Taylor was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1745. His parents were Irish immigrants, but I do not yet know their names or when they arrived in America, I assume likely not long before James' birth. Very likely his parents were part of the massive Scots-Irish migration from Ireland in the early-mid 1700's.

James married Martha Steel, born in New Jersey, on 10 Feb 1773 in Chester County. I've located a "US Census Reconstructed Record" for 1770 showing a James Taylor living in Goshen (town) in Chester County. It shows he owned no land, animals, or servants.

It appears James and Martha moved shortly after they were married to York County which is two counties west on the Maryland border (Lancaster County in-between). The earliest record I believe to be for James in York County, PA is the Pennsylvania Septennial Census for 1786 (census taken every 7 years). I found the same record for James in the next such census in 1793. Both only show him as a resident of Chanceford Township in the SE portion of York County.

James and Martha had 11 children according to the 1882 book referenced above.

James bought land in York County. He farmed as did the vast majority of men in these early days of America.

The 1800 Census shows the following:

--- James: in category "Males 45 & over"; this would be correct as he would be 55 years old per his birth date
--- Martha: in category "Females 45 & over".
--- Jemima: in the category "Females 10 thru 15" as this would make her birth year between 1785 and 1790.
--- There are 8 other children in this Census besides Jemima. Since 11 is the total number of their children, it's obvious 2 have left home. Mary, who has already married James Douglass in York County. The other children are listed as:
--- 1 son age 16 - 25
--- 2 sons ages 10 thru 15
--- 3 sons less than 10 years of age
--- 2 daughters less than 10 years of age

From the Clinton County history book: they left Pennsylvania in 1801 with the family of James Douglass whose wife is their eldest daughter, Mary. This move was to Wellsville, Virginia (now West Virginia) on the Ohio River. Then in 1802 the 2 families moved again to Columbiana County, Ohio which is basically across the Ohio River and a bit north.

The 1882 book does not say what prompted the move, but Columbiana County as well as the State of Ohio were formed in 1803. James Douglass may have been looking for opportunity, perhaps especially land, by getting into what would become Ohio shortly.

James and Martha with their children thus settled in Columbiana County, Ohio in 1802. James and Martha stayed in Columbiana County while daughter Mary with husband James Douglass moved further west into Ohio in 1815. James is found in several Tax Lists during the first decade of their Ohio residency, and are found in the 1820 and 1830 Census.

By 1820, James and Martha have only 3 sons living with them, all between the ages of 16 and 25 per that Census. Their Township is called Petersburgh. The 1830 Census names their Township Springfield, unsure if this means the family moved physically.

In 1830, there are 3 members of James' household. James is in the age category "80 - 89" and 85 should be his age. The older female is in the age 60 - 69 category which translates to born 1761 - 1770. Since James and Martha married in early 1773, it would seem this is not Martha. Also, the 1882 book states Martha died at age 79, which if she was born in 1755 would mean she died in 1834 but this is also not true as, based on James' Will, she had already died as of late 1831. However, I suspect this IS Martha and the explanation is that she was reporting herself as "having grown younger" to the enumerator which I've found many times in Censuses until the advent of Birth Records/ Certificates (early 1900's usually)

Still regarding the 1830 Census, the 3rd person reported is a female in the age category "15 - 19", maybe a granddaughter.

James' death is reported in the 1882 book as being at age 86 which translates to the year 1831. Since he wrote his Will on 3 Aug 1831, he died sometime later that year. His Will went thru probate in Columbiana County in the March Term 1832 with no specific date indicated.

In the will daughter Jemima, who married Patrick Douglass was left only $1 as her inheritance. Daughter Mary was left the same amount, but additional text indicates James had already left her "her share". All of James' sons inherited land except James S (Steel) who is noted as being left $200 per an "article of agreement" that had been executed previously. Children unnamed in James' Will were deceased while 5 names with small legacies (bequests) in the estate accounting record must be Grandchildren.
