Notes |
- Foreldra var Knut O. Nesheim (1840– 1922, Griggs, ND) og Kari Knutsdtr. Finne (1851– 1911)
"They came to America in 1873 along with their good friends, David and Elizabeth Gulbraa. The Gulbraa's had an infant daughter Bertha, who became sick while they were on the ship. Her mother prayed that the baby would live until they reached America so that she would not have to be buried at sea. (This would have been the third Britha they lost in infancy. But she survived!)
Both families settled near Vinje, Iowa and lived there for a number of years. In 1898, Albert, son of Knut and Kari married Bertha Gulbraa and the young couple moved to Rake, Iowa when the town began in the summer of 1900. Their house was the first to be completed (this home was owned by Bill Halsne in 1975). Bertha would spend her days cooking meals for 14 of the men who were working on the new rail road tracks and putting up the buildings.
They both lived out thier lives in Rake. Albert passing away in 1947 and Bertha in 1961.
Albert and Bertha had 11 children, with one daughter dying in infancy. Remaining were: Esther (Lee Olson), Della (Alfred Underdahl), Oscar, Alice (John Midthun), Cora (Glen Heath), Beulah (Melvin Kallestad), Ethel (Sidney Jensvild), Dr. Martin, Ernest, and Ione (Kenneth Jones)"
