- "Emil was the son of Christian L. and Karen Eriksdtr. Odegard. He attended the one room country school, Stavener #3 and was a member of Grue Lutheran Church.
Emil went to Saskatchewan, Canada in 1907, with his brother Eddie (1878-1918) and two neighbors, where he filed on the NE 1/4 section 14 Township 28 West of the 3rd Meridian in the Anerly district. Next to his brother Carl Odegard (1883-1949). Emil was one of the first settlers to move into the new town of Anerly, Sask. after the railroad came through. In partnership with Greg Dunlop he built and operated the first general store in Anerly in 1913, which also contained the postoffice. Later the partnership was dissolved and Emil ran the store with the help of his brother Eddie for a few years.
In 1915 Emil married Rena Olson who was born on March 19, 1892 in Hallingdal, Norway. In 1922 Emil sold the store to Hal Davison and they moved to Sherman Oaks, California where Emil ran a grocery store and Rena had a dress shop. They had no children, a niece of Rena's, Gladys (Olson) Weldon, lived with them,a nd later Norman, one of Rena's newphews made his home with them Gladys and Norman were cousins.
When Emil and Rena retired they moved to Friendly Valley, Newhall, California. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in August 1965 with an open house at the Central Lutheran Church at Van Nuys, California where they were members.
Emil died at Van Nuys in 1965 at the age of 81 years 9 months. Rena moved into an aparatment at Van Nuys and later to a convalescent hospital where she died in 1978. Emil and Rena are interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood, California."
