"Andrew came to southern Minesota in 1871, and married Helene in 1874. He left her with her family at Spring Grove, Minnesota and left for Dakota territory. In 1875 they met up in Fargo and started to walk the 20 miles to the claim, but were picked up by oxcart by Martin Hexom. They stayed at the Hexoms while a log house was made ready by late fall. By 1890 a frame house was built as well as a barn and storage buildings, the acreage now totaled 240. Andrews death in 1902 left Helene with the five youngest children to continue farming. These were Peter, Helen, Henry, Betsy and Alvin. Ole and Gustav were employed elsewhere. There were 12 children, but five of the first six had died during a doptheria epidemic. Helene remained on the farm until her death in 1940. It is still known as the Quinnild farm." Excerpt from "Rural Cass County, The Land and People" pub. 1976, pg. 687-688.
