Svale meldte utreise til presten i Sund 1899, men har muligens reist ut før. Han sto konfirmant i 1880 og kan ha tatt hyre på båt like etter. Enkelte kilder i USA har ham innflyttet der i 1881. Han ankom New York via Liverpool 4. mai 1899 på skipet Aurania. I 1910 finner vi Svale og familien i Norfolk, Virginia - i Farmers Creek District. Han er da ført i census som Harry Hendriksen. Ifølge death certificate i 1919 var han carpenter, 55 år, hadde bodd 35 år i USA da han døde av blodpropp i hjernen etter nesten seks uker på sykehus.

Svale announced his departure to Sund parish in 1899, but has possibly left earlier. His confirmation was in 1880 and he may have taken work on a ship soon after. Some sources in the US have him there in 1881. He arrived in New York via Liverpool 4 May 1899 on the ship Aurania. In 1910 we find Svale and family in Norfolk, Virginia - Farmers Creek District. He is then entered in the census as Harry Hendriksen. According to the death certificate in 1919, he was a carpenter, 55, had lived 35 years in the United States when he died of a blood clot in the brain after nearly six weeks in hospital.
Svale married Calda Alvilda Eleonore Krogh, daughter of Kristian Antons. Krogh and Eline Hendriette Witbro, on 18 Aug 1901 in Our Saviour's Lutheran, Kings, New York. (Calda Alvilda Eleonore Krogh was born on 2 Oct 1883 in Alsvåg, Bømlo, christened on 4 Nov 1883 in Finnås, died on 25 May 1948 in Brooklyn, New York and was buried in Greenfield Cemetery Hempstead.)
