General Notes:
Mons Nils. Glæsnes emigrated 1869. Together with Peder Nils. Golten, Lars Peders. Toft, Johannes Lars. Hammersland and Anders Hans. Kleppe he registered his emigration to America in the church records on May 17th 1869.
Mons married Julia b. abt. 1850 (emigrated from Norway in 1872). When his sister Anna died in 1942 the family had not heard from him in over 30 years.
Mons Nilson f. 1840 melde utflytting til Amerika i 1869, og reiste frå Bergen til Quebec i Canada med båten "Erling Skjalgsson", busette seg i Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo i Iowa, USA, kona var norske Julia f. om lag 1850 (emigrerte i 1872). På skiftet etter søstera Anna i 1942 var det opplyst at Mons hadde vore gift og hadde born i USA. Siste gongen familien hadde høyr frå han, var for over 30 år sidan. Borna hans hadde sidan ikkje hatt kontakt med familien i Noreg, og ein visste ikkje kvar dei budde. Dei vart difor strokne som arvingar.
The 1880 census for Clear Lake has Monson Nelson (41), Julia (32) and sons Nelson and Haldo(r) and Mons brother Peter Nelson (31).
The Clear Lake Mirror, Thursday March 2nd, 1922:
"Mons Nelson died suddenly Mons Nelson, a familiar and well know citizen of Clar Lake, died suddenly Monday night. He had been in his accustomed health and there were no premonitions of his approaching end when he retired on Monday night. Not arising as usual his daughter, Mrs. Charlie Glous (Glause), with whom he resided since the death of his wife in January, 1921, going to his bed room to awaken him, was given a great shock to find him cold and lifeless. The deceaced was born in Norway 84 years ago, emigrating to this country when in his youth, settling in Cerro Gordo county, residing on a farm until a few months ago, when he moved to Clear Lake, Mrs. Nelson passing away in January 1921. He leaves to mourn his loss four children, one daughter, Mrs. Cha.s Glous, three sons: Nelson, a resident of Minnesota, Henry, living in Ventura, and Andrew on a farm near Clear Lake. Mr. Nelson was a jovial character and had lived a useful life. The funeral services will be held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Glaus, at 10 o'clock Friday morning, and from the Zion Lutheran church about 11, conducted byt the Rec. N. O. Peterson, interment being in the Clear Lake Cemetery."
Mons married Julia Halverson Bly, daughter of Haldor Johannes. Måge and Marita Jakobsdtr. Bleie, in 1874 in Cresco, Howard, Iowa. (Julia Halverson Bly was born on 27 Jul 1846 in Ytre Bleie, Ullensvang, christened on 9 Aug 1846 in Ullensvang, died on 31 Jan 1921 in Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo, Iowa and was buried in Clear Lake cemetery.)
