John Bannister Fitzgerald Sr. married to a Mary Hawkins Bartlett emigrated from Ireland with his parents. This John reportedly was born around 1735 in Ireland to James Fitzgerald & Mary O'Brien of Ireland. The family was said to be Protestant and left Ireland to escape religious persecution. They arrived in Philadelphia in 1745, with Mary reportedly giving birth to a younger son, Edmund aboard ship in 1745 "born on the Atlantic Ocean". This family is believed to have moved down the Eastern Seaboard and settled near Halifax, Virginia.
John took the Oath of Allegiance in 1777. He provided Patriotic Service during the American Revolutionary War.
John's will was written on June 29, 1822 and proven on July 19, 1824, so he died sometime between those two dates.
