Born in Germany according to the 1860 census for Nottingham township, Wells, Indiana. At the time her son Solomon Weist and daughter Mary Ann Heckathorn were living with her, as were Mary Anns children Lydia and Franklin, and a shoemaker named Walter J. Grosh from Maryland.

Margaret married Peter Weist, son of Peter Weist and Catharinae Reenbach. (Peter Weist was born circa 1793 in Germany and died on 29 Jun 1859 in Indiana.)
