Three years later he bought and moved to an eighty acre tract near to and just west of Newburg. Here too it was vast wilderness, giant treees, briars, bushes and brush. He cleared it an built a typical log cabin. There were just a few settlers, no roads, wild turkeys, panthers, wolves and wild cats, and squirrels so many they could eat and destroy acres of corn.
