She was born in Norfolk, the daughter of the late Richard and Gladys Krough Buchanan and was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Robert Powers. Mrs. Powers was a founding member of the Blackwater Artist League, a past Worthy Matron of the Franklin Chapter 128 O. E. S., and was a volunteer at Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was a librarian for the Franklin Public Library and a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Audrey enjoyed life, golf, art, reading, traveling and computer games. In her seventies she graduated from Paul D. Camp Community College with an Associates Degree.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Powers Critzer (Michael) of Pinehurst, NC, and Susan Powers Vosters (James) of Stuart, FL; one son, Bob Powers (Susan) of Chesapeake; seven grandchildren, Elena Paige Wiersma, Robert Franklin Critzer, Brian Vosters, Mark Vosters, Doug Vosters, Jennifer Kane, and Megan Dosher; seven great-grandchildren, Taylor and Dani Wiersma, MacKenzie Vosters, Nora and Meara Kane, and Rowan and Larry Dosher; and one brother, Burwell Overton Buchanan of Kill Devil Hills, NC.

KILL DEVIL HILLS- Burwell O. "Buck" Buchanan, 93, of Kill Devil Hills passed away peacefully in his residence on April 15, 2012. Loving husband of the late Marie Kummer Buchanan [4 May 1920 - 8 Dec 2003]; brother of the late Richard and Audrey (Powers), father of Judy (Jim Parker) of Philadelphia, PA and Richard (Viviane) of Fairview Park, OH and proud grandfather of Andrew, Lucy, Taryn and Catherine.
Born in Norfolk, VA, the family moved to Brooklyn, NY when Buck was 12. He served in the Army Air Corps in WWII as a C-47 pilot in the 79th Troop Carrier Squadron of the 436th Troop Carrier Group and also participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy. After the war he settled in Cleveland, OH and spent several years as a teacher and counselor at Fairview High School. His next career was as an inspector of the U.S. Immigration Service from which he retired in 1983.
He became an accomplished painter of beach scenes, light houses, etc., inspired by the beautiful surrounding of the Outer Banks after he retired.
Marie Kummer was born on 4 MAY 1920 in Ohio. She died on 8 DEC 2003 in Fairview Park, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. She married Burwell Overton Buchanan.
